The paintings were unveiled by the current
secretary-General, Efthimios E. Mitropoulos at the IMO headquarters
at the Albert Embankment in London in company of distinguished
guests including the Minister for Transport, the First Sea
Lord as well as members of the Secretaries – General
families and descendants.
"I commissioned these paintings in my strong wish
that, through this opportunity, we add to the due tribute
we all owe to the former Secretaries-General of the Organization
and to recognize the heritage that collectively, they have
created. IMO's success and the credibility of its outcome
has been founded on its ability to develop technically sound
and practicable measures and it is fitting that we should
recognize the part played in this by those who have led
the Organization during their tenure, through good times
and bad.
The portraits you will see today are the work of Robert
Lloyd, a British artist who specializes in marine subjects,
and the funding for the project has been generously provided
by a donor from the shipowning community". Efthimios
E. Mitropoulos Secretary-General.
The paintings now hang at the IMO Headquarters
on the Albert Embankment in London. For further information
